6 Aug 19 Bozeman MT

Glad to report that my hand op went well & have acquired a metal spike in my thumb to keep bits in place.

Bozeman is a very sizeable place, therefore meeting up with paramedic, David Byers, in the pharmacy when collecting my medicine, was a chance in a million.

David Byers & Me.

After the accident, David took the very best care of me during the long ambulance journey to Sky City. He treated my wounds & fluctuating condition, and held my attention with his many army adventures & personal life stories. By the time we arrived at the hospital, thanks to him, I was in far better shape.

  1. Hello John!
I have been a silent follower of your adventure.
I am very sorry for your acident and your injury (can’t imagine how painful it was….).

But, again, I am happy to confirm how a great man you are.
Your dedication to name and express the gratitude with the ones that helped you, your resilience (that doesn’t go away even facing such a big challenge), your clear vision about the positive sides of this misfortunate event…
You are really a great man with a big and adventurous heart.

    1. Thank you João. It is such a pleasure to hear from you after such a long time! I have great memories of last years ride & of our regular meetings as we travelled down through America towards Mexico.
With a little rehabilitation, my hand should be as good as new &, you are right, will start thinking of my next ride soon, possibly Adventure Cycling’s, Trans-America

    2. Respect for you, my friend, is equal. I have watched & learnt from you. How you travel light, simple and wholly independent – confident to ride the the wildest, toughest trails alone & at ease when doing so. You have been an inspiration & am privileged to have you as a good friend.
      My very best wishes. John

  2. Hi John Thinking of you. Glad the operation went well. Hope you’re not in too much pain. I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Such rotten luck. You seem to be very positive despite the circumstances. I hope you manage to enjoy what’s left of your holiday. Take care Pat x

    1. Hi. Pat, I’m well on the way to recovery, in a great part of Montana with good friends. Could have been very different so feeling lucky!
Starting my journey back home tomorrow will try a simple ride on my gravel bike. Don’t want my backside to get soft. Looking forward to meeting up in October. x
